Questions people ask before booking

Fees and payment

How much does a session cost?

Fees differ between counsellors. Each counsellor’s fees for individual, couples and family sessions are listed above. Regular sessions are 60 minutes; your first session is usually 90 minutes, so its fee is 50% higher than the hourly rate.

Halaxy shows the exact fee, and your counsellor’s payment and cancellation terms, before you confirm.

Are Medicare rebates available?

Medicare rebates are not available for couples counselling under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan. For individual sessions, rebates may be available when you see an eligible psychologist, accredited mental health social worker or appropriately qualified occupational therapist, but they are not available for counselling services provided by counsellors.

We aim to keep our counselling fees accessible and competitive with the out-of-pocket costs of psychological services.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Each counsellor’s payment and cancellation terms are shown on Halaxy before you confirm.

Your sessions

What happens during my first session?

Your counsellor will begin by helping you clarify your desired outcomes and what you would like to be different in your life. Together, you’ll explore what’s happening internally that may be getting in the way and what it will take to respond differently.

It can save time if you write down a list of your desired outcomes before your appointment.

Why is the first session usually 90 minutes?

Your first session is ideally 90 minutes because there is a lot to explore, and we don’t want you to feel rushed. Your counsellor will help you clarify your desired outcomes, understand what’s been getting in the way and explain how you can work towards meaningful, lasting change.

By the end of your initial session, our aim is for you to have a clearer understanding of what you’d like to achieve and how we can work towards those outcomes together.

Regular sessions are 60 minutes. As the initial session is usually 90 minutes, its fee is 50% higher than the corresponding hourly rate because of the additional time.

If the cost presents financial difficulties, we offer flexible payment plans to accommodate different budgets.

Can I book a shorter initial session?

Yes. We understand that a 90-minute session may not suit everyone financially, so a 60-minute initial appointment can also be arranged. Call 0485 705 248 to arrange it.

A shorter first session may mean we need some extra time in your second appointment to fully explore your concerns and agree on a clear direction.

Can I have sessions online?

Yes, you can have sessions online as well as face to face at the Boolwey Centre in Bowral.

How do I choose a counsellor?

Start with what you would like help with. Each counsellor’s profile describes their approach and fees, and lists the areas they work with.

If you’re unsure, call 0485 705 248 and talk it through before you book.

Privacy

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, with certain limits. Counsellors have a responsibility to act when someone’s safety is at risk or when disclosure is required by law. Outside these circumstances and other applicable legal exceptions, information is only shared with your written consent.

Something else on your mind? Call 0485 705 248 and talk it through before you book.
